Dehydroacetic Acid

A synthetic fungistatic and bacteriostatic preservative used in low concentrations.

Dehydroacetic acid is a cyclic ketone acid that prevents spoilage by inhibiting growth of fungi and Gram-positive bacteria. It is most effective in slightly acidic formulations (pH < 7) and is often combined with other preservatives for broad-spectrum activity. It is permitted up to 0.6% in the EU and is suitable for both rinse-off and leave-on products.
